On his way home from school, a 12-year-old boy works up the courage to ask his neighbour, a girl he secretly admires, if she would spend time with him. His head is filled with vivid fantasies about their time together, but as he settles in his bed, ready to wander off into his daydreams, a firefighter bursts in through his window and rushes out the door. Something is happening outside.
