MONSTRA is back at Annecy! From 21 to 27 June, MONSTRA returns to the world’s largest animation festival, an event that celebrates the very best in global animation. This year we’ll be taking part in two distinct parts of the festival, and in a very special way: the promotional spot for the 2025 edition of MONSTRA, directed by Vasco Casula, has been nominated for Best Film in the commissioned works category. And one of our artistic directors, Fernando Galrito, will be on the jury for that same section.
As well as the MONSTRA promotional spot being featured in this competition, there are other films that screened in Lisbon’s cinemas in March taking part in the festival!

  • Virgin Fandango, by Marcy Page, a co-production between Ciclope Filmes and the National Film Board of Canada, that had its world premiere at the closing ceremony of MONSTRA 2026, will be part of the short film competition.
  • Decorado, by Alberto Vázquez, a Portugal-Spain co-production via Sardinha em Lata, will be part of the feature-length competition.
  • Because Today is Saturday, by Alice Eça Guimarães, winner of the Audience Award in the Portuguese Competition – Vasco Granja, will be part of the Perspectives section at Annecy.

In addition to the films in competition, we will be attending MIFA, the festival’s animation industry and market section, represented by our artistic directors. You can view the full Annecy programme on the festival’s website.
