An Italian feature film, created by four young directors (Ivan Cappiello, Marino Guarnieri, Alessandro Rak and Dario Sansone). It tells the story of Cinderella, who grew up in a huge ship moored in the port of Naples. Both her future and that of the poor city of Naples are held by a thread because of an ambitious drug dealer who wants to turn Naples into the crime capital of the world.

The design of the settings is akin to a blend of different inspirations that, brought together, build a kind of indefinite retro-future. It’s as if Júlio Verne and The Triplets of Belleville (another film featured on MONSTRA Festival) had come together to create a new style. The sound and music are also extremely eclectic, going from blues and jazz to modern electronic, following the increasingly violent pace of the film. This film is the direct opposite of the Disney live-action version of Cinderella.

Regarded by film critics as one of the best Italian animation films of the last few years, Cinderella The Cat is a piece you cannot afford to miss! To be screened on Friday, March 16 at 8pm, in Room Manoel de Oliveira of Cinema São Jorge.
